Tropical Wildlife

Taking out the paper recycling earlier, I found a stick insect had been hiding in our recycling. Here it is:

I'm still being amazed on a daily basis by the diverse wildlife just on our small section in NZ. Yesterday, I found a weta while doing DIY, and I often find Praying Mantii (Mantisses?) in amongst the veggie garden, especially on the sunflowers. They aren't really pests as they eat other bugs, so I don't mind them and am quite happy to have them patrolling the garden.

We also get the occasional cockroach wandering in from the garden, but disposing of the odd roach seems a small price to pay for living here.

  1. Totally agree. Mind you the first praying mantis I found creeped me out a bit, especially as it was chewing on something that looked awfully like another praying mantis.

What amazed me was the brightly coloured parakeets which fly up and down our driveway.

    I love this place.

Apart from the bastard Mongrel Mob. F*cking Black Power and all their ilk.
    Shoot the bastards now.

Isn't NZ just a lovely place for kids though?
